Garden Grove is a fairly small city located in the centre of Orange County; it occupies only eighteen sq miles but has a dense population numbering 175,000. Garden Grove is a community that forms a dynamic and thriving city with a strong sense of its roots based on a colorful history it is defined by its large Asian American population that moved to the city during the 1970’s.

Garden Grove began when Alonzo Cook purchased 160 acres in the late nineteenth century he is recognized as the founder of Garden Grove. He donated land for the schoolhouse and post office here. Garden Grove became a bustling farming community and for many years it kept to it’s agricultural roots. World War II had a massive impact on the growth of the city. Many servicemen who had undertaken training in California returned to settle and raise their families. "The City of Youth and Ambition" was incorporated in mid 1956.

It is perhaps most widely known for the Robert H. Schuller “Crystal Cathedral”. Renowned for the distinctive architecture and weekly 'Hour of Power' broadcast, which is listened to by millions of Christians all over the world. The spectacular cathedral is a far cry from the original ministry that was, controversially, held in a Drive-In Movie Theatre.

Garden Grove is a popular place for theater enthusiasts who have a choice of three stage theaters, the Garden Grove Playhouse, Gem Theater and the Festival Amphitheater. Garden Grove boasts over 160 acres of parks and recreational areas and is an outstanding community dedicated to family fun and recreation. It is easily accessed by the 22 Garden Grove Freeway and Interstates 5 and 405.
