Fremont is a city located south east of the San Francisco Bay Area in Alameda County. It has residents of over 200,000 on an area of approximately 92 sqmiles.
Fremont began when the San Jose Mission was founded in 1790’s and is located about 15 miles northeast of the San Jose Pueblo near the foot of Mission Peak. The adobe museum building survives today as a historical view of the original living quarters, shops, and storerooms.
Eight towns were established in Washington Township between 1860 and 1945. Each town had its own stores, churches, schools, halls, post offices, and organizations. The towns of Niles, Mission San Jose, Centerville, Irvington and Warm springs were incorporated into the City of Fremont in 1956.
In the twentieth century Fremont built a strong economy. Over 12 of the largest publicly-held technology companies in the USA are located in the city and a choice selection of the nation’s rapidly-growing private firms has chosen to move their headquarters to the city.
Fremont offers a wide variety of facilities and activities for your enjoyment. The city manages several parks including Central Park with Lake Elizabeth in addition to unique historical sites, a state of the art sporting complex and the Olive Hyde Art Gallery.
