Guide to Picking a Mover

If you thought it was easy to pick a moving company, you’ll be surprised but still it’s not rocket science. However, as they’ll be transporting all that you own, it is best to select the most reliable and safe movers. It is best to compare and save on your next move, by proper research and reference. When you start looking for moving quotes from a host of moving companies, it’ll surprise you with the variation in prices but the cost differs on many reasons such as better level of customer service, experienced staff, higher reputation in the industry and safe transit of goods.

However, if you find a company that gives a low ballpark estimate, beware as they might be a rogue company that has high hidden costs. In most cases, price depends upon the distance you need to travel so a local moving will be cheaper than relocating across the state or interstate. But with numerous quotes and constant vying for your business, you might be getting more hassled than before about picking a mover. However, here is a checklist of points that you need to consider when picking a mover:

#1- Planning: It is best to plan your move in advance to beat the last minute stress. As most moving takes place during April to September, you can choose accordingly. If you don’t have a specific timeline and need to budget your relocation, choose other months to move.

#2- Compare moving company quotes: Talk to at least 4-5 moving companies and then ask them for written quotes based on your phone interview. Based on the quotes, you’ll be able to narrow down the list to 1-2 movers based on their price and offered services. Get on site consultation with an in-house review of your household goods that need to be relocated and receive a binding estimate- guaranteed price that’ll be charged for the relocation.

#3- Negotiate: You may interview the movers about the experience in the industry, if they’re associated with the AMSA or state associations. Check with Better Business Bureau to ensure that you are comfortable with the quality of service and secure about the reputation. Compare and save on the move by checking costs, services and reputation. Ask for discounts and you’ll be surprised that most companies will provide a few additional services within the same cost if business is low during off season.

#4- Selection of moving company: If all the short listed companies provide you with the same type of moving quotes but your interaction is better with one or you found one mover more helpful than the others, select the one that gives you a feeling of better customer service and security of your household goods.
